How to Specify EVA Foam: Density, Hardness & Thickness

A wrong spec means a wrong sample. Before you email a supplier, lock down these three numbers — they decide 90% of how the foam behaves.

1. Density (kg/m³)

Density drives weight, firmness and cost. Typical ranges:

  • 30–45 kg/m³ — ultra-light, yoga mats, padding.
  • 60–100 kg/m³ — general footwear, packaging.
  • 120–200 kg/m³ — structural, high-load inserts.

2. Hardness (Shore C)

We rate EVA on the Shore C scale (not Shore A). Common range is 15C (very soft) to 80C (firm). A yoga mat might be 35–45C; a shoe midsole 45–60C; a toolbox insert 60–75C.

3. Thickness & tolerance

Standard sheet thickness runs 1–100 mm. Tell us the tolerance you need — ±0.2 mm is achievable on CNC-routed parts, ±0.5 mm on molded sheets.

Bonus: VA content & color

VA content (%) affects clarity and flexibility. Color is unlimited via masterbatch — just send a Pantone or sample swatch.
